WELCOME

to the East Coast Dance Championships

We are an independent dance championships, held annually at the Memorial Hall in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire.


We offer competition in Ballet, Tap, Modern and Song & Dance, with a judging panel of dance industry professionals and teachers. All our dancers receive a certificate and medal for participating, with rosettes and prizes for our champions. Entry is open to all, and no membership card is required.

We would also like to remind everyone that we will be launching our team dance competition in 2024 also, as well as a new Championship event in Norfolk. Dates and venues to be confirmed.

COMPETITION RULES

The following rules apply to all dancers, teachers, and visitors to the East Coast Dance Championships. The organisers reserve the right to revise these rules on an ad-hoc basis if it becomes necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the competition.


  • The competition is open to amateur dancers only – those in full time professional training, or receiving an income from the performance or teaching of dance, are not permitted to enter
  • Entries will be accepted at the sole discretion of the organisers
  • Entries will only be accepted if they are received before the closing date – Friday 6th October 2023
  • All dancers must compete in the correct age category
  • Ages are to be taken as the age the dancer will be on the first day of the competition - Saturday 4th November 2023
  • Dancers may only perform once in each category
  • Communication with the judges is strictly prohibited
  • The decision of the judges is final - we will not engage in any discussion regarding results
  • Dancers should arrive at least 1 hour before they are due to perform – late arrivals will be disqualified
  • Dancers must check-in with the backstage steward at least 10 minutes before their category is due to start
  • Dancers must perform in the correct programme order
  • Dancers must be ready to perform when their number is called
  • Dancers must leave the wings immediately after performing
  • The organisers accept no liability for the infringement of copyright or music licensing laws – it is the responsibility of the dance teacher to ensure that all music is used in accordance with the law
  • All music will be checked by the organisers to ensure it adheres to the time limit. We will contact teachers if we have any queries. We will not allow music that exceeds the time limit
  • The choice of music, quality of recording and any editing will be considered by the judges
  • We permit the use of recorded vocals during the dance break for Song & Dance; however, dancers must not mime to, or use recorded vocals to enhance the natural voice
  • Tap music must not include any recorded or simulated Tap sounds
  • Only fixed, single sound taps are permitted – taps should be securely screwed in place to ensure clear beating
  • Pointe work is only permitted in Tween and Elite age categories
  • Gymnastic tricks are permitted, but should only be used sparingly to enhance a strong technical dance performance
  • Only competition staff are permitted in the wings - where possible we will allow one adult, preferably the dance teacher, to chaperone children aged 5 in the backstage area
  • Dancers must always be supervised by a responsible adult in the dressing rooms - we will not act in loco parentis, or accept responsibility for any child, except when they are under the supervision of competition staff in the backstage area
  • Competition staff will supervise the backstage area – unauthorised people will be asked to leave
  • Parents, carers, relatives and friends accompanying a dancer, must pay the appropriate admission fee to watch
  • Competing dancers will be allowed free admission to the competition
  • Entry to the auditorium will only be allowed between performances
  • Spectators must wear the correct wrist band to enter the auditorium
  • Costumes should not be worn in the auditorium
  • Any form of audio and video recording is not permitted in the auditorium – professional services will be available where possible
  • Mobile phones must not be used in the auditorium and should be switched off or on silent mode
  • By participating in the competition, dancers give their consent for photographs and video to be taken and used for publicity purposes
  • All dancers, teachers, parents and carers are expected to behave in an appropriate manner – any complaint regarding the conduct of any person will be taken seriously
  • We will not tolerate any form of bullying, harassment, intimidation, or poor sportsmanship
  • We accept no liability for any accident or injury that may occur
  • We accept no liability for the loss, damage or theft of any personal belongings, valuables, costumes, props, clothing etc
  • Everyone attending the competition must treat the venue with respect – please keep areas clean and throw away an rubbish
